An inclusive, green and dynamic river region
Located between the two most traffic intensive highway junctions in the region, the area of Marieholm is connected to the city centre via a small bridge crossing the river to Gullbergsvass and the areas downtown.
Today there’s a wide range of local scale companies based in the Southern Marieholm area. Along with warehouses and storage rooms, cultural associations, restaurants and small creative companies rub shoulders.
Our vision is to create a dynamic urban landscape that can deal with the reoccurring flooding in a near future and restore a physical relationship to the river. Existing factories/businesses will be encouraged to stay in the area, the situation and the flooding risk are an opportunity to prevent gentrification and offer affordable places for activities near the city center. Abandoned buildings will become workshops and the empty silo will work as a cultural center and exhibition hall. A floating river walk will help define the area and connect it with downtown and Hisingen.
The ever-present traffic noise gives us the opportunity to work with silent places – Stillspotting. The aim is to identify or create stillspots that will be the contrast to the monotonous noise and a way to rediscover your hearing over and over again.
